We are excited to be part of the North Country Zine Fest in Plattsburgh, NY on October 12th at the Strand Center.
Here are the details:
Where: Strand Center for the Arts, 23 Brinkerhoff St / Plattsburgh, NY 12901
When: Saturday, October 12, 2024, from noon – 5pm
Publishing Genius got our start with zines. Before PG existed, I was making a zine called The Kankakee Review which I recently came across when my brother showed me the copies he’d saved. That was fun, a college project. Before that, I had a zine with some buddies called .iota but none of those copies have survived, I don’t think. Before that, in fifth grade, I had a zine called Split that was mostly a knockoff of Cracked, the knockoff of Mad.
Anyway, I am always somewhat abashed not to do more with zines, but Amy does a lot with handmade books (to wit), so we’ll have some of those there, along with some books from PG’s history that are more punk-inspired, like John Woods’s amazing book Activities and a lot of chapbooks, which usually have some customized component.
If you’re in the North Country (of NYS), come out and say hi! And if you plan to go, let us know so we can hang out after?
*Because this is a tourist area, we encourage you to book lodgings well in advance. There are many AirBnbs within walking distance of the Strand, as well as hotels, motels, and campgrounds.
