… there’s so much I don’t know about my life.

Originally published by 421 Atlanta back in 2016, we are excited to reintroduce Sarah Green’s extraordinary poetry collection again. Read sample poems.

“True generosity and wit being in as short supply these days as always, Sarah Green’s poems help me to feel again the old possibilities of poetry made fresh & new via the speech delivered here in care of her particular heart.  She is entangled all right—vividly, energetically, warmly so—but feels whole beyond her recognizably human confusions. Acceptance is what they call this kind of wisdom. Her poems make it sound peculiarly exciting.”  —David Rivard, author of otherwise elsewhere

“With fluency and heart, the poems in Sarah Green’s Earth Science seem to say that beneath the surface of our common lives, our daily pleasures, nothing is stable, not family, nor the neighborhood, not the constellations, not even the sun a child was sure ‘stood still.’ Love affairs, tragedy, even catastrophe, are simmering, most grippingly in the summer before the Boston Marathon bombing, when, in the poet’s lively Cambridge neighborhood The bombers were not bombers/yet, just brothers both younger than me, wrestling…/We were all very alive—/all of us and the brothers. (‘Assembly’) I’m tremendously moved by the insight and appetite in this eloquent debut.”  —Gail Mazur, author of Forbidden City

Sarah Green is the author of The Deletions (Editor’s Choice, Akron Poetry Series) and the editor of Welcome to the Neighborhood: An Anthology of American Coexistence. She is also the founder and host of Emergency Poems, a humanitarian fundraising reading series. She is an Assistant Professor of English at SUNY Plattsburgh.
