PG: What’s your relationship with experimental film?
SB: Like so many relationships, my relationship with experimental film is complicated and tide-like. The past year I have spent making videos, which I believe I have approached as experimental films—with the good and bad implications this forcing of one medium onto another would present. Perhaps they are feeling like videos though. I’m unsure what it is I feel is so important to be recognized as a distinction between these media—I mean aside from the very obvious machinations of creation and exhibition. Certainly the videos I have recently completed are created to be viewed as theatrical pieces, which not all video must be.
